“And the award for the most ridiculously brilliant horror movie of 2023 goes to...” The trailer for Slotherhouse, that’s right, Slotherhouse, teases the violent vendetta of a vengeful sloth, who decides to cut a bloody path through a group of sorority sisters. The trailer, which comes courtesy of Gravitas Ventures and Iconic Events Releasing, teases what could very well be the runaway cult horror hit of the year. The synopsis reads as follows:
“It’s senior year of college for sorority sister Emily Young and for the first time ever, Sigma Lambda Theta is having elections for who will be president,” the wild synopsis for Slotherhouse begins. “Wanting to have a killer year, Emily Young realizes she might just be the best option for her sorority. While beginning her campaign, she finds an adorable sloth that steals her heart and soon realizes she just might steal the hearts, and votes, of her sorority sisters. But when bodies slowly begin to pile up in the Sigma Lambda Theta house, Emily and her sorority sisters realize the deaths are being caused by their new house mascot, the cuddly sloth Alpha. Will Emily and her sisters escape the house with their lives? Or is this death-sloth with 3 razor sharp claws too quick for them?”
Directed by Matthew Goodhue (Woe), written by Bradley Fowler, and from a story conceived by Bradley Fowler and Cady Lanigan, Slotherhouse promises to be the latest in the ever-growing line-up of warped horror movies involving animals gone berserk, as well as being inspired by the likes of M3GAN, Cocaine Bear, and the Chucky series.
Slotherhouse Is Dedicated to Practical Effects in an Homage to Creature Features
Slotherhouse stars Lisa Ambalavanar (Titans), Sydney Craven (Jeepers Creepers: Reborn), Olivia Rouyre (High School), Bianca Beckles-Rose, Andrew Horton (Jupiter's Legacy), Sutter Nolan (Deer in the Headlight), Grace Patterson (What's My Name Again?), Milica Vrzić (The Outpost), Annamaria Serda (Crawl), Tiff Stevenson (People Just Do Nothing), Stefan Kapičić (Deadpool, Better Call Saul), and Kelly Lynn Reiter (Deadlock), with Rudi Rok as the voice - yes the voice - of Alpha.
As demonstrated in the trailer, Slotherhouse will rely on practical effects to bring the titular animal to life, with writer Cady Lanigan saying in a statement; “‘Slotherhouse’ was inspired by iconic cinema with a dedication to practical effects. It’s an homage to our favorite creature features and slashers with a FURocious horror icon for the modern world. ‘Slotherhouse’ is simply bonkers.”
Nick Royak of Iconic Events Releasing meanwhile adds, “’Slotherhouse’ is a movie that embodies the reckless abandon genre films can bring to the table. It scratches the sloth itch we didn’t know we had! Our team is thrilled to work on a project that really goes for it, claws and all."
Slotherhouse is due to terrify audiences when it lands in theaters nationwide on August 30, 2023.
