The return of Only Murders in the Building is just around the corner. After receiving some Emmy nominations, where it will have to compete with great comedies like The Bear, Barry or The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, the series is preparing for the premiere of its third season. But it comes with bad news.

Although its three protagonists, Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez will return for the new episodes, another of the great stars that has been around since the first installment will not be part of the third season. This is Nathan Lane, who plays one of the residents of Arconia, the famous building where the series takes place.

Despite the fact that in the second installment he did not have as much prominence, Lane was one of the big stars of the first part, with his character Teddy Dimas being directly involved in the case that the protagonists solved together for the first time. As reported by Deadline, the actor was unable to film because he already had a previous commitment for a Broadway production and his schedule did not allow him to return to the series.

Lane has a long and incredible career in Hollywood, where he has been part of movies like The Lion King, The Birdcage, or the recent Beau Is Afraid, as well as appearing in series like Sex and the City, Modern Family, or American Crime Story. Additionally, the actor has a long list of titles in the theater, where he participated in works such as A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Wind in the Willows or The Wizard of Oz.

Only Murders in the Building
Hulu

True-crime and murder mysteries are on trend once again, and Only Murders in the Building knew how to take advantage of it. Mixing the genre popularized by Agatha Christie and her novels, but with a comedy tone and poking fun at the audience's recent obsession with true-crime stories thanks to Netflix’s documentaries, the series follows Mabel, Charles and Oliver, three residents of New York's iconic building The Arconia who have a podcast dedicated to solving crimes.

However, the podcast is not fictitious at all, since the cases they report are real and they themselves are experiencing them. In the season two finale, after solving the case of the moment, a new murder shocks the community. It is about the death of Ben Glenroy, the main actor in Oliver's play, played by none other than Paul Rudd. The third installment will try to reconstruct the events that led to his death, while the protagonists solve the mystery.

In addition to Rudd, the new episodes of Only Murders in the Building will feature the performance of Academy Award-winner Meryl Streep, one of the big surprises that Hulu announced for the show right after it was renewed for a third season. At the moment, it is not unknown what her role will be in the series.
