The new season of Only Murders in the Building will arrive on Hulu in August, according to two of the show's lead stars. Per Variety, Steve Martin and Martin Short performed for their "You Won't Believe What They Look Like Today!" touring show at the Walt Disney Theater in Orlando, Florida, over the weekend. According to the report, Martin and Short were sharing recent updates on what they've been up to, such as the filming of Only Murders in the Building season 3. That's when Martin divulged an apparent premiere date for the new season.
"Catch the new season August 8," Martin said.
"Our show is like Steve trying to pee — it streams for 33 minutes," Short added.
Just days ago, Martin, Short, and their co-star Selena Gomez appeared in a video shared to social media from the final day of filming. In the video, the trio can be seen addressing the dozens of crew members that helped make the Hulu series happen, announcing that the season has wrapped while thanking everyone for their help.
Only Murders in the Building Gets Meryl Streep for Season 3
Steve Martin created the show with John Hoffman. First premiering in 2021, the series follows three neighbors — Charles-Haden Savage (Martin), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez — who team up to investigate strange murders that happen within their shared apartment building. After getting to the bottom of the mystery in the first season, the trio were forced to clear their names after becoming suspects for another murder at the heart of season 2. Plot details haven't been shared for the third season just yet, though we know it will pick up right after the events of season 2.
At least one major star is also joining the cast of the show for season 3. Meryl Streep has previously been announced for the cast and will likely be playing a key role, though details on her character haven't been fully revealed. It also remains to be seen if some other actors from the previous seasons will return, including Tina Fey and Da'Vine Joy Randolph, though Nathan Lane and Amy Ryan have confirmed that they won't be in season 3, which Lane joked to ComicBook.com was the "Meryl Streep season."
Martin executive produces the series with co-creator John Hoffman. Other exec producers include Gomez, Dan Fogelman, Jess Rosenthal, and Jamie Babbit. The series is produced by Thembi Banks, Jane Raab, Nick Pavonetti, and Kristin Bernstein.
If Martin is to be believed, then the third season of Only Murders in the Building will premiere on Hulu on August 8, 2023. For now, you can stream the first two seasons of the series on Hulu.
