Could Only Murders in the Building soon become Murders Outside the Building? That's a critical question that must be addressed before the third season of Hulu's mystery/true crime comedy.

OMITB has received critical acclaim since its 2021 debut, with its parody of the true crime genre and performances of the three leads noted as particular standouts. Longtime friends and collaborators Steve Martin and Martin Short are at their best, joined by Selena Gomez as the perfect addition to their trio. Though perhaps an unlikely combination on paper, the three's strong chemistry quickly proved any naysayers wrong.

The first season unites podcast lovers Charles Haden-Savage, Oliver Putnam, and Mabel Mora after a mysterious death hits close to home, literally, right in their shared apartment building. The second season turned the tables on the three, placing them center stage as suspects. But from what we know of the third season, those stakes are about to rise even higher.

A possible new location, massive name guest stars, and a secret between the victim and investigators are just some of the twists teased for OMITB's third outing. Let's look at everything we know about Only Murders in the Building's third season.

At the end of the second season, it seemed like things were finally starting to go right for our trio. They wrapped up the murder of cantankerous building manager Bunny Folger and enjoyed a year of peace with no investigations. However, we wouldn't have a third season without another mysterious death. This time, fate befalls Broadway star Ben Glenroy. As the group assembles for the premiere of Oliver's latest play, a new case is kickstarted when lead star Glenroy drops dead on stage.

It's doubtful that Glenroy's death is coincidental. One of the last people he speaks to is Charles, who cryptically reminds Glenroy that he knows what he did. Is Glenroy an old friend of Charles from his acting days? Did they meet during the one-year time jump after Bunny's case wrapped? Is he connected some other way? The possibilities are endless. As Glenroy is set to join the third season's stacked cast (more on that later), the show will likely fill in some of the gaps from before his death. This could include what happened in the time jump and how Glenroy connects to the title trio. All we can do now is speculate.

There's also the possibility that the third season violates the show's own title. We can clearly see that Glenroy's death does not occur in the Arconia, the titular building where the murders ostensibly must take place. Since the trio limited themselves to only investigating inside, what does this mean for the new case? Glenroy likely has some connection to the Arconia, so the apartment complex can remain involved even if the crew expands its horizons. Again, all we can do is speculate on the numerous possibilities.

Additional plot details will likely be revealed as production continues.

Fans will be happy to know that the core trio remains intact for season three. Steve Martin's Charles Haden-Savage, Martin Short's Oliver Putnam, and Selena Gomez's Mabel Mora are all back on the case for another year.

Outside of the leading trio, OMITB has managed to draw some pretty big names throughout its run. Stars like Cara Delevingne, Nathan Lane, Tina Fey, Michael Rapaport, Jane Lynch, and Shirley MacLaine all crossed paths with the trio one way or another. The show even landed Sting and Amy Schumer as fictionalized versions of themselves residing in the Arconia. The third season is pulling out all the stops for its cast additions. First and foremost, the eternally ageless Paul Rudd is on set as the latest murder victim Ben Glenroy. Rudd showed up for a brief scene at the end of the second season finale, where the show introduced his character and immediately killed him off. With Rudd confirmed as having a recurring role in season three, we can expect to see more of Glenroy's backstory play out.

Grey's Anatomy alum Jesse Williams is set for a third-season role. While we don't have many specifics, we know he plays a documentarian interested in the case. Ashley Park of Emily in Paris will play Kimber, a fellow Broadway star. Actors Jeremy Shamos, Linda Emond, Don Darryl Rivera, Allison Guinn, Gerald Caesar, and Wesley Taylor are also confirmed to appear, with details on their roles currently under wraps.

Also, no big deal, but OMITB nabbed a little-known star by the name of Meryl Streep to join the third season's ensemble. We don't yet know who the multi-Academy Award winner plays, but it's likely a significant role if they booked someone of Streep's caliber.

Currently, Hulu has not set a date for the third season of OMITB. However, we know that filming began in January 2023. The first two seasons premiered around the summer, so it's possible that season three could be here in just a few months.
