Summary

  • Batman: The Animated Series and Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy are two iconic portrayals of Batman that have captivated fans throughout the years.
  • The fan art created by Tom Uicich, combining the styles of the 90s cartoon with Nolan's movies, has been highly praised and lived up to expectations.
  • The future of Batman looks promising, with new live-action and animated iterations in the works, but there is a concern about potential overexposure and the need for DC Studios to handle the franchise carefully to avoid fatigue among audiences.

Of the many iterations of Batman that has been brought to life on screen, Batman: The Animated Series stands as one of the greatest of all time. Alongside that stands Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy starring Christian Bale in the lead role. What if the two were thrown together in a piece of fan art? Well, artist Tom Uicich has it covered, and shared the three posters of Nolan’s movies in a style befitting of the 90s cartoon.

Batman has been an icon of comic books since his conception way back in the 1930s, but across the decades the Caped Crusader’s range has expanded into many other types of media. Every fan has their personal live-action Batman, but there is little doubt that Christian Bale’s movies are not far from the top of many lists. Combining that with the popular Batman: The Animated Series was always going to create something spectacular, and as can be seen in the post shared below on Instagram by The History of the Batman, the result has not disappointed.

Of course, Batman: The Animated Series has held a place in the hearts of many fans thanks to the incredible vocal performance of the late Kevin Conroy. From the moment the series premiered in 1992, its place in history was set and Conroy went on become the voice of Batman in many other TV shows, movies and video games.

Similarly, Christian Bale’s Batman became a fan favorite for simply exorcising the memory of Batman & Robin and bringing the darkness back to the Dark Knight. Batman Begins was a good movie, The Dark Knight was one of the greatest superhero movies of all time, and while The Dark Knight Rises couldn’t quite hit the same heights, it certainly didn’t do anything to degrade what came before it.

Like every iconic superhero, it doesn’t matter what happens, there will always be another iteration of Batman coming down the line at any given moment. Currently there are several.

James Gunn will be unveiling a brand new live-action iteration of the Dark Knight in The Bold and the Brave in a few years’ time. The Flash reintroduced Michael Keaton’s Batman for a short while, and even pulled George Clooney back into the role of Bruce Wayne, giving both of those a potential future in the role. Robert Pattison’s journey as the lead of The Batman universe is only just beginning. There are also a number of animated projects featuring the Caped Crusader in early development, making this quite a time for Batman fans.

While all of this is great news, it also comes with a certain sense of trepidation. There are many different versions of Batman set to be on screen at the same time, which could seem like a touch of overkill for the franchise. With everyone talking about Marvel fatigue, it will be worth DC Studios treading carefully to avoid the same kind of complaints about one of their biggest assets.
