The ending of Loki season one can best be described as chaotic. Sylvie’s murder of “He Who Remains” (A variant of Kang) sent the timelines into absolute disarray. Shows and movies occurring after Loki explained that the finale created ripples across the entire MCU.
“He Who Remains” death in season one completely rewrote the TVA. This is revealed when Loki arrives at the headquarters, and Hunter B-15 and Mobius do not remember him. Such a revelation forces audiences to ask an important question. How can the TVA remember their time chasing The God of Mischief?
Loki went on numerous adventures throughout the course of season one. Along the way, he made a good friend in the TVA. Mobius and Loki built a kinship in their attempt to fix the multiverse. Season one even found Loki falling in love with one of his variants, Sylvie. It was quite a bit of narrative ground to cover over one season. For Loki to regain his new friends, he might have to do it all again. Thanks to the power of the timelines that might be an easier task than expected.
Loki Will Have to "Replay" Season One
At the end of season 1, Kang is revealed to have taken over the TVA. His actions might have undone everything Loki did. Loki has to prove himself to the TVA, and Mobius, to show them he is an ally. This will include explaining to Mobius a second time that the organization was a lie.
Loki only has one option to prove the truth to both Mobius and Hunter B-15. He has to show the pair what he learned with Sylvie in the finale to season 1. The mysterious gods of the TVA, the Timekeepers, are not who they say they are.
Redoing season one does not mean that audiences have to relive it. This “redo” could be something that happens off-screen. Loki will have to prove to Mobius and Hunter B-15 that their “gods” are really just animatronics. That moment of proof already seems to be shown in the trailer for season 2.
Loki appears to be showing Mobius that Kang has been in control of the TVA all along. This seems to be the sole option for proving to Mobius and B-15 that the multiverse has devolved into chaos. There is only one other option for Mobius to remember his past with Loki.
He is going to have to see Kang’s villainy and wickedness firsthand. Audiences have briefly seen this in the after-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. This moment seems a likely place for Mobius to finally believe Loki. The Kang variant “Victor Timely” is shown in Quantumania’s end credit scene. If the truth of the TVA isn’t enough to jog Mobius’s memory, then Timely might do the trick.
Victor Timely Could Prove Kang's Menace to Mobius
In the comics, Victor Timely is one of Kang’s most powerful and menacing variants. This new season appears to be taking place in different time periods. Sylvie seems to be in an old-school 60s London setting, but it is not the most important one. Timely’s appearance seems to be occurring in 1893’s World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The event was a turning point in America, with numerous scientific breakthroughs. Such a period is a perfect place for Loki and Kang's next showdown.
Viewers only see Timely in season two’s trailer for a moment. That moment still registers the fear Loki has of seeing him again. It is unclear what his presentation could be during the Worlds Fair. Whatever it is, we can safely assume it leaves a powerful impression on our heroes. Most likely. It will showcase Victory Timely’s (AKA Kang’s) newfound ability to travel the multiverse freely. That power could involve some more rewrites to the history of the TVA and prove to Mobius the dangers ahead.
Timely’s actions in the past could also explain something about Loki in the present. In the trailer, Loki “time-slips” throughout the TVA. Both he and Mobius (as they are apparently friends at this point) go to visit Ke-Huy-Quan’s character, “OB.” They turn to him to try and figure out what is happening in the organization and to Loki himself. Their visit with OB could be after their encounter with Timely at the World’s Fair. The events occurring in this order could be what makes Mobius and B-15 remember their past. It would also be an interesting full-circle moment, tying the MCU into world history.
1893’s World’s Columbian Exposition was a turning point in societal progress. Besides some shady history, the event was supposed to celebrate America. It was meant to show the innovation the country was headed towards. The Exposition, much like the TVA, wants to celebrate progress but also keep the peace.
Victor Timely could be the chaotic neutral that can never be truly defeated (at least not yet). The TVA seeing this firsthand, as Loki has, could properly convey that danger. It might be the only way for Loki to jog Mobius and the entire organization’s memory. Kang’s main plan could cause the destruction of timelines and prove to the TVA that this threat needs to be stopped.
