The cast of Superman: Legacy continues to grow. Days after the announcement of the casting of David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as Clark Kent and Lois Lane for James Gunn's long-awaited first DCU film, new actors are joining the cast.

Earlier this week, Isabela Moner, Nathan Fillion and Eddie Gathegui were announced as part of the project to play Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner and Mr. Terrific, three classic heroes from the DC mythology. Now, The Hollywood Reporter announces that Barry's star Anthony Carrigan will also be a part of the film in an unexpected role.

According to the outlet and Gunn's own confirmation on social media, Carrigan will play Metamorpho, a hero created by writer Bob Haney and artist Ramona Fradon in 1964 as part of the Outsiders group, and eventually participating in different versions of the Justice League.

Metamorpho can transform his body thanks to the elements that compose it, being able to adopt solid, liquid or gaseous states. And not necessarily his entire body, also only specific parts at will too. The unique consistency of his body provides him with natural armor, making him resistant to direct attacks or attacks with energy sources.

Despite his long filmography, Carrigan has become one of the stars of the moment on television thanks to his role as NoHo Hank on the hit HBO sitcom. The actor has already participated in the DC universe in the Batman prequel series, Gotham, playing the famous villain Victor Zsasz.

How All of These New Characters Fit into Superman: Legacy

Superman
DC Comics

After the confirmation of the two protagonists of the next Man of Steel movie, DC fans expected that the new names that would join the project would be the actors behind characters like Jimmy Olsen or Lex Luthor, directly related to the mythology of Superman.

However, as he normally does, Gunn took everyone by surprised by choosing characters perhaps not as popular or named beyond the pages of the comics, or who have not been brought to the screen that many times, something similar to what he did with a huge portion of the team of villains from The Suicide Squad.

And although it is still not clear why he has chosen these characters, all of them at some point have been related to the Justice League and, therefore, to Superman. Which would indicate that Gunn seeks to establish a link between the Man of Steel and some other ancient great icons of the comic book company, something that could help to build a larger universe for the franchise.

In any case, the director clarified that most of these characters will be far from the focus of the story, which will be on Lois and Clark, and surely on their relationship. Gunn confirmed this while answering fans on social media:
