Embattled actor Alec Baldwin is getting his movie career back on track. Back in October 2021, Baldwin had been involved in an on-set accident while filming the movie Rust that left cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead. Baldwin had been charged criminally over the incident, but newly-appointed special prosecutors have since dropped the charges against the actor. The investigation is ongoing, meaning Baldwin could potentially be charged again in the future, though the actor and wife Hilaria Baldwin celebrated the news with images posted to Twitter, one of which features Alec cradling his wife like an infant.
Now, it's also been revealed (per Deadline) that Baldwin has just been cast in his next starring role that will bring him back to the big screen. He has joined the cast of Hollywood Heist, a "comedy crime caper" that serves as the feature directorial debut for filmmaker Mike Hatton. Also starring in the film are Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler), Nick Cannon (Roll Bounce), Paul Sloan (The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson), Til Schweiger (The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare), and Tara Reid (Sharknado series).
Word is Baldwin is playing a fictionalized version of himself in the movie, as are Rourke and Reid. The film is set in a meta version of Hollywood and is said to be based on true events.
Hatton co-write the screenplay with Sloan. Per the report the synopsis for the movie is as follows:
Hollywood Heist follows a Hollywood power agent (Cannon) trying to land an actor (Baldwin) by telling the story of his client, a movie producer (Hatton), along with a washed-up movie star pal (Sloan), as they race against time to save their latest production. This comes after the project’s bank account is wiped clean by a thief, leading to an onslaught of negotiations with famous actors, drug lords, and death.
Alec Baldwin Will Finish Filming Rust
This news follows word that Baldwin has resumed filming Rust at its new filming location in Montana. Halyna Hutchins' widower, Matthew Hutchins, has since boarded the project as an executive producer, having since settled a wrongful death lawsuit with the Rust team. He released a statement noting that he didn't attribute any blame to Baldwin specifically or any other one person.
I have no interest in engaging in recriminations or attribution of blame (to the producers or Mr. Baldwin)," Matthew Hutchins said. "All of us believe Halyna’s death was a terrible accident. I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s final work.”
It's not yet clear when either Rust or Hollywood Heist will be released.
