Season three of The Mandalorian has been streaming on Disney+ for a couple of months. Next month, fans will have the other greatly anticipated live-action Star Wars series of the year: Ahsoka, featuring fan-favorite Ahsoka Tano. As the Padawan of the legendary Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka has a long story that goes through all the major eras of the Star Wars universe, debuting in The Clone Wars, played by Ashley Eckstein, and making her first live-action introduction in The Mandalorian, played by Rosario Dawson. Now, Ahsoka is receiving her own solo series.
Update July 12, 2023: This article has been updated following the trailer for Ahsoka and in preparation for its upcoming Dinsey+ release.
Ahsoka will pick up on the heels of The Mandalorian and solve some lingering mysteries from Rebels. There are many friends and allies from Ahsoka's past that should return to meet again, from love interests to animal sidekicks. Here are the characters we want to see most in the upcoming Disney+ series Ahsoka.
The Ghost Crew
Ahsoka was very close with the crew of the Ghost in Rebels, almost becoming a part of the close-knit multi-species family. Ahsoka worked closely with Hera Syndulla as a part of the Rebellion, was a Jedi Padawan who lost a mentor to the Palpatine's Empire like Kanan Jarus and went on a journey into unknown space with Sabine Wren to find Ezra Bridger, who saved her life from Darth Vader.
Trailers for Ahsoka have confirmed many characters from Rebels will return. Natasha Liu Bordizzo will play Sabine Wren, the Mandalorian warrior and graffiti artist of the Ghost Crew. Mary Elizabeth Winstead will play Hera Syndulla, the Twi'lek Captain of the Ghost, and she will be joined by her droid Chopper. Eman Esfandi has been cast as Ezra Bridger.
Thrawn
Many fans choked on their pumpkin pie leftovers after Ahsoka named-dropped the infamous Grand Admiral Thrawn in The Mandalorian. Thrawn is the legendary mastermind of war who almost revived the Empire after Palpatine's death in the non-canon Legends novels, made his canon appearance in Rebels, and has been a fan-favorite for decades. We know that Ahsoka left with Sabine after the fall of the Empire to find Ezra, who jumped into hyperspace after trapping himself with Thrawn and was lost in the Unknown Regions of the outer galaxy in the only trick that outsmarted Thrawn.
Thrawn has since been name-dropped again on the most recent season of The Mandalorian. Actors Lars Mikkelsen, who previously voiced Thrawn in Rebels, is confirmed to reprise his role in Ahsoka.
Bo-Katan Kryze
Ahsoka fought alongside Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) against Maul during the Siege of Mandalore in The Clone Wars. Since it was Bo-Katan who directed Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Baby Yoda, aka Grogu to Ahsoka in The Mandalorian, it's clear that the two have stayed in close contact since, so it makes sense to see the rightful heir to the throne of Mandalore return to make an appearance in Ahsoka.
The Mandalorian
As fans know, Ahsoka and Mando crossed paths in both season two of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Mando was in the process of searching for a Jedi to help get Grogu the proper training that he needed on his path. Their journey took them to the forest planet of Corvus. Once there, they met Ahsoka, who was in the process of trying to capture Imperial Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth, whose master is Grand Admiral Thrawn. Ahsoka was able to out-duel Elsbeth, while Mando helped free the city of Calodan from her rule. It would be amazing for fans to see Mando return the favor and help Ahsoka capture Thrawn in the new series.
Grogu
Speaking of Grogu, it would be quite special to see another old friend with some Jedi powers help Ahsoka fight evil in a galaxy far, far away. Not only did they cross paths in season two of The Mandalorian, but Ahsoka helped watch over Baby Yoda as he was getting trained by Luke Skywalker. It would be great to see Ahsoka and Grogu team up, former old Jedi of the Republic.
Barriss Offee
Barriss Offee was a Padawan learner in the Jedi Order and a long-time friend with Ahsoka during the Clone War until Barriss saw that the Jedi had abandoned their peacekeeping ideals to lead the war, throwing the Force off balance and the galaxy into years of suffering. Offee bombed the Jedi Temple of Coruscant and framed Ahsoka, which ultimately lead to Ahsoka leaving the Order as well after realizing Offee was correct about the Jedi.
Morai
The avian creature known as Morai has been linked to Ahsoka ever since The Clone Wars. Morai had a special connection to the Daughter, one of the powerful Mortis gods who embodied the light side of the Force, and some speculate that Morai is another manifestation of the Daughter and thus the light side itself. The Daughter sacrificed her remaining life force to revive Ahsoka, and Morai has watched over her since. Morai made an appearance in both Rebels and The Mandalorian, so it's a good bet that Morai may even have a major role in Ahsoka's series.
Lux Bonteri
Lux Bonteri (Jason Spisak) began the Clone War on the opposite side of Ahsoka as idealistic opponents and wartime enemies, but their many meetings in The Clone Wars changed both their perspectives on their enemies and on the war itself. Lux has experience in halls of politics and on the battlefield and had an obvious attraction to Ahsoka. She later felt the same about him, but Lux focused more on winning the war that Ahsoka left. We know almost nothing about Lux after the Clone Wars, except that he continued to fight against the Empire in Christie Golden's Inferno Squad, but we'd love to see Ahsoka with her old love again.
Captain Rex
Captain Rex (Bradley Dee Baker) and Ahsoka were both introduced in The Clone Wars and have been a fan-favorite duo ever since. Rex was the clone Captain of Anakin's 501st Battalion, and the two worked together under Anakin throughout the Clone War, surviving Order 66 and burying most of the 501st together, and continued to fight in the Rebellion. Wherever Ahsoka goes, Rex follows, so a reunion in the new series between these longtime and war-hardened friends is almost guaranteed.
Luke Skywalker
For fans, it should be kind of fun to think about how the son of Ashoka's former master, Anakin Skywalker, has now come in contact with her. Ashoska and Luke Skywalker previously crossed paths in The Book of Boba Fett. In one particular moment before Ahsoka leaves, Luke asks if he will see her again. Ahsoka replies, "perhaps."
If Ahsoka and Luke teamed up, that would give fans flashbacks to Star Wars: The Clones Wars, where Ahsoka and Anakin teamed up in so many battles trying to fight for the betterment of the galaxy. Luke is alive during this period because the timeline of these events is in between what happened in Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. so it is highly possible for him to appear. Yet given how the deep fake has been received by fans this one might be best left behind.
Anakin Skywalker
Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), the man who became Darth Vader, was Ahsoka's friend and mentor, almost a brother to her. We know that she learned of his fall to the dark side and tried to kill Vader to avenge Anakin, but we don't know if she was ever to move on or if Ahsoka even knows of Anakin's final redemption. He's one with the Force now, so Anakin can return as a Force ghost to Ahsoka and guide her as Anakin's mentor Obi-Wan did for his son Luke. Hayden Christensen is confirmed to return to reprise his role, so it is highly like the former master and apprentice will share the screen once more.
While there are many on this list and many not included, Ahsoka has a lot of beloved characters to add to the series, and we'll be waiting to see which ones make the cut.
