Check out the new trailer for Ahsoka below.
The warrior, outcast, rebel Jedi Ahsoka Tano takes center stage in the Disney+ series, Ahsoka, with the plot finding Ahsoka Tano investigating an emerging threat to the galaxy following the fall of the Empire. Ahsoka is on the hunt for the evil Grand Admiral Thrawn in the hope it will help her locate the missing Ezra Bridger, the young Jedi that disappeared with Thrawn many years ago. The Star Wars series will bring several characters from across the franchise into the fray, with fans of the animated series Star Wars Rebels excited to see the story continued in live action.
Beloved Star Wars character Ahsoka Tano finally made her live action debut during the second season of the hit Disney+ series The Mandalorian, in which she was portrayed by Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Clerks III star Rosario Dawson. A casting decision that fans have been suggesting for some time.
Returning to lead Ahsoka, the rest of the cast includes Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothma, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, and the late, great Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, a former Jedi who survived Order 66 and has since become an ally to Thrawn.
Ahsoka Has Been Called the Fifth Season of Star Rebels
Ahsoka will pick up some of the threads left behind by the animated series Star Wars Rebels, which ran from 2014 to 2018 and picks up over a decade after the fall of both the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order and the rise of the Galactic Empire. The series follows a motley group of rebels who must unite the menace of the Empire. And it sounds like audiences will need to do their homework before Ahsoka, which was recently described by star Rosario Dawson as the fifth season of Star Wars Rebels.
“It’s hard sometimes to tell with the things you read online whether that’s actual fact or just some fan fiction,” Dawson said. “But I’m pretty sure Dave said that this is basically like the fifth season of Rebels. So it felt nice to feel that sort of continuation with these people she’s got such a rich history with. You can see that with her mission that she has, going after Thrawn, and believing that he’s still alive, and holding Ezra in her heart because they have a really beautiful, long history as well.”
Ahsoka is scheduled to be released on August 23, 2023, on Disney+ and will consist of eight episodes.
