The popular TV show, Riverdale, is returning for its seventh and final season, and fans are excited to see what the crew has in store for them. In a recent social media post, series creator and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa gave viewers a sneak peek of a character introduction for the upcoming season. In the caption, he mentioned that the team is working on creating something "truly special" for this year.

This season, the cast of Riverdale will be traveling back in time to the 1950s as they try to solve one of their greatest mysteries yet. While details about the plot have not been revealed, it is sure to be an exciting and emotional final season for the show. Riverdale first premiered in 2017 and has gained a large and dedicated fanbase over the years. It has received numerous awards and accolades, including a People's Choice Award for Favorite Network TV Drama.

The footage begins with someone playing "Rock Around the Clock" on a diner jukebox, setting the retro-style tone for the show's introduction. The core cast of characters, including Archie, Betty, Veronica, Cheryl, Kevin, Toni, and Tabitha, are then shown enjoying life in the 1950s while wearing period-appropriate clothing and haircuts. However, none of them seem to have any idea of how they ended up in this time period. Jughead, played by Cole Sprouse, rounds out the cast, wearing his iconic crown. However, unlike the others, Jughead appears to be the only one who understands the situation, and he looks confused and scared. It's clear that this season will be full of twists and turns as the characters try to figure out how they ended up in the past and how to get back to their own time.

What to Expect From Riverdale's Final Season

Riverdale left fans with plenty of questions after the season six finale. Riverdale found itself in the year 1955, and characters had been de-aged into teenagers with no recollection of their lives before Bailey's Comet. However, Jughead Jones was granted immunity from this timeline change, retaining his memory and natural age as Riverdale heads into its final season. With Jughead seemingly the only one knowing Riverdale's true past, viewers can expect a thrilling and intriguing seventh season, seeing what answers the series offers as it comes to a conclusion.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa recently revealed that the upcoming season of Riverdale is the most grounded one yet, and will be quite a change from prior seasons. However, Riverdale isn't saying goodbye to wild and surprising narrative lines just yet. According to Aguirre-Sacasa, viewers can still expect a crazy ride in the series' grand finale due to the era portrayed in Riverdale's current time period.

"Thank god the '50s were as crazy as they were, because it's been so fun to be in that world. Every season we explore the tropes of a specific genre, be it supernatural, be it pulp, be it crime. This year our genre is the 1950s, so we're in dialogue with the American myth of what the 1950s were versus the reality."

Riverdale's final season has no set premiere date, however, it is likely to air in the spring of 2023.
