Gossip Girl is returning for season 2 on HBO Max on December 1, per Teen Vogue. The news comes months after the series' first season finale last December. In September 2021, the streamer confirmed that the sequel would return for a second season. Season 2 will also mark the arrival of Michelle Trachtenberg, who portrayed Georgina Sparks in the original 2007 series. Showrunner Joshua Safran confirmed Trachtenberg's participation in the sequel last October, exciting fans of the original series.

When audiences first met her, Georgina was a rebellious Upper East Sider with a penchant for stirring up drama. During the original show's fourth season, Georgina gave birth to her son Milo. The new series introduced Milo (played by Azhy Robertson) during its first season. Audiences immediately saw that the apple didn't fall from the tree, and Milo was just as intelligent and problematic as his well-to-do mother.

In a previous interview with The Daily Beast, Safran, who served as a writer and executive producer on the original series, hinted at the possibility of original cast members making appearances on the sequel:

"The decision was: Let’s get Season 1 under our belt, and should we get Season 2, we’ll have the chance to bring in cameos that are more than glorified cameos but actually give them storylines. Hopefully we’ll get there and will reach out to the cast if that time comes and see if they’ll want to come. There are some cameos in Season 1 from people on the original show, but not the series regulars," he said.
