It has been almost three years since Disney Plus launched, joining the pantheon of streaming platforms available and becoming, according to Business Insider, one of the best streaming services for on-demand content. Over the three years, Disney Plus has gathered and created approximately 7000 episodes of TV and 500 movies. Disney animated movies, of course, every Marvel movie and series, and even nature documentaries are a signature factor of the platform, but the list surely doesn’t end there.

Now that Disney+ has acquired yet another Netflix original Marvel series and is dominating with its Star Wars series, like The Mandalorian, and award-winning movies, such as Encanto, it’s only a matter of time until it climbs further towards world domination. In the meantime, here are the best ten TV series that you can stream on Disney+ right now.

Disney / Pixar

Set after Toy Story 4 and based on the character Forky, Disney+ brought back the Toy Story 4 favorite in ten animated shorts in 2019. This third Pixar short series focuses on Forky as he asks his friends questions about life. Forky Asks A Question won Pixar its first Emmy for Best Short-Film Series. Many were outraged (even the fans of Toy Story) at the result, as they believed Steven Universe: Future got robbed in the same category. Instead of doubting the beauty of the animated shorts, they were directing their rage towards the Disney Corporation’s creative stranglehold on the media.

9 The Simpsons

20th Television

The Simpsons is one of the longest-running series ever made with 33 years on its back. We're more than sure that everyone knows the plot, but just in case: it follows the Simpsons family as they mock American culture and media, and have the tendency to magically predict events from the future, such as Richard Branson's space voyage in 2014. In the honor of the streaming platform's anniversary, Disney+ also created new Simpsons shorts, where the characters hang out with iconic Disney ones, such as Goofy. It appears that the famous show is not going anywhere anytime soon, as the show runner Al Jean wants to keep it going for another several years.

8 The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder

Disney Plus

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder is a 2022 revival of an original Disney Channel show, which aired from 2001 to 2005. The plot follows a young girl named Penny Proud and her family as they navigate their lives through the 2020s. Despite adoring the series' needed representation and its lovable characters, the audience also criticized a lot of its aspects. They, for example, raised questions of how Maya felt about her white father being a cop when she’s portrayed as an activist. Furthermore, the way the writers wrote homophobia into the reboot series was a little unrealistic, mostly with how people at school reacted with a certain character's coming-out. That said, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder brought us back to our childhood and deserves a watch.

7 High School Musical: The Musical: The Series

Inspired by the High School Musical film series, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is a Disney+ creation, which is set at the same East High School, following the school lives of theater kids as they create a musical production for their school. The series was recently renewed for its third season and is set to release in 2022. On top of delivering powerful musical performances, the series is also great at carefully crafting its sweet romances.

Diary of A Future President follows a 13-year-old Cuban-American girl named Elena (Tess Romero) as she reads from her diary and aspires to become the next President of the United States. Season two of the series premiered in August 2021, and though many were excited for the upcoming season, the show's creator Ilana Peña announced its cancellation on Twitter. Though short-lived, if you're looking for a diverse cast and queer representation, this is the show for you.

The Marvel TV show has three seasons out so far, but Cox expects to be playing the character for at least another decade. Daredevil also led to creating a crossover miniseries The Defenders, which you can also watch of Disney+.

We couldn't help but include at least one of the MCU TV series that are available on Disney+. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier follows Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) as they deal with their personal struggles with PTSD and becoming the next Captain America. Since the show's finale, it has been confirmed that Mackie will return as Captain America in Captain America 4. The reason for picking this particular MCU TV series is because of how it showed the two-faced treatment of Black heroes, its tackling of racism, and the beautiful portrayal of a trauma survivor.

once-upon-a-time
ABC

Once Upon a Time is an American fantasy TV series that aired for seven seasons. The plot tells the story of two different worlds: one set in the real world of a seaside town in Maine, and the other, a fantasy world where all the fairytales characters exist. One of the things that the TV show did very well was understanding that some villains don’t need tragic pasts; sometimes they’re just rich people who don't know what to do with their wealth. Once Upon a Time's biggest accomplishments was bringing our favorite Disney / fairytale characters to life in live-action.
