Gal Gadot is definitely coming back as to play Diana Prince in Wonder Woman 3 as a part of James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU. Earlier this month, the actress confirmed that a third movie of her adventures as the famous Amazon was in development, and now she offers more details about her future as the popular hero.
Even when Wonder Woman 1984 was not so well received as the first movie starring Gadot and directed by Patty Jenkins, there's no doubt that the actress' version of Diana Prince has been one of the most celebrated aspects of the franchise since she first appeared in Batman v Superman, so when David Zaslav announced a reboot of their universe based on DC characters, many fans were shocked by the thought of Gadot not playing the character anymore.
Fortunately, it seems like she won't be sharing the same fortune as Ben Affleck's Batman and Henry Cavill's Superman. In a recent interview with Flaunt, Gadot offered further details on her future as Wonder Woman while describing the meeting she had with Gunn and Safran about her role in the franchise:
"I was invited to a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran. They told me, and I’m quoting: ‘You’re in the best hands. We’re going to develop Wonder Woman 3 with you. [We] love you as Wonder Woman— you’ve got nothing to worry about.’ So time will tell."
Wonder Woman from 2017 was one of the biggest hits for the DCU, which was recently dethroned as the highest-grossing film exclusively directed by a woman by Barbie, another major blockbuster from Warner Bros. Pictures.
Gal Gadot Could Return as Wonder Woman Before the Third Film
Of course the actress announcement of a third movie being in development doesn't mean that it'll be one of the next projects within the new DCU, but she could return as Wonder Woman sooner than expected. As a part of the list of the first productions announced for the first phase of the new franchise, titled Gods & Monsters, Gunn confirmed that a tv series based on the mythology of the Amazons was coming to Max.
The show will be set on Themyscira, and although it may take place before the birth of Diana, the events narrated on the plot could lead to that moment, connecting with the next movie or even with the first Wonder Woman film, working as a prequel to Gadot's adventures as the hero.
And that's not all. Earlier this year, Gunn revealed that he was interested in developing new animated content related to Wonder Woman. And as DC Studios co-CEO has already confirmed, any actor that plays a part in the new franchise in the animated format will reprise that same role in live-action, which means if an animated movie or series center on Wonder Woman gets made as part of the new canon, Gadot will play the part even if it's just to lend her voice.
