DC Studios is getting to new animated movies. While many changes are being made in the official canon of the franchise that has James Gunn and Peter Safran as the main leaders, the company is taking a pause from releasing movies on the big screen after Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, at least until Superman: Legacy arrives in 2025. But that won't stop them from making new animated titles, and two major projects have been announced.

During DC Studios' panel at San Diego Comic Con, it was confirmed that the Watchmen are coming back with an animated film, while a Crisis on Infinite Earths adaptation is also heading to the animated format. The comic book series created by Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons and John Higgins is one of the most acclaimed stories within the genre and was already adapted for both the small and the big screen.

Back in 2009, Zack Snyder presented his version of the Watchmen to the world in a movie that's being way more appreciated now, and paved the way for the director to create the Snyderverse, based on the most popular characters from the DC universe.

Ten years later, HBO brought the characters back to life in a series adaptation of the story, that only run for one season but had a huge impact into the superhero genre. According to the information revealed during the panel and published on DC's official Twitter page, the new Watchmen movie will arrive in 2024, but no details about the plot or the cast were shared, except of course for clarifying that it would be an R-Rated project, which is not surprising given the content of the story.

The Justice League is Coming Back with the Crisis on Infinite Earths Animated Movie

It might take a long time for fans to be able to see a new Justice League getting together in live-action, but at least they'll get to enjoy the superhero team working together in a new animated adventure. The popular comic book arc Crisis on Infinite Earths is getting an animated movie adaptation, as it was revealed during DC Studios panel at San Diego Comic Con.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths will also be release in 2024, and no details were shared about this project either, but comic book readers are already very familiar with this popular story. Published in 1985, Crisis on Infinite Earths has become a major event within the DC Comics mythology, maybe even the biggest one, since it was the first-ever-made crossover between almost every character within the company.

The CW's Arrowverse adapted this plot back in 2019, bringing many characters from other DC franchises back to join their main heroes ni a fight to save the many realities that made up the whole multiverse, and although it wasn't as successful as previous crossovers such as Invasion! or Crisis on Earth X, it was definitely a good attempt to bring such a meaningful story to the screen.
