Assassins Often Make for Magnetic Cinematic Leads
Movies about assassins are often popular among audiences, and this year has been no different. The likes of the action sequel John Wick: Chapter 4 proved to be the most successful installment in the franchise, and once again follows Keanu Reeves’ dog-loving hitman as he attempts to survive with a target on his back and fights to defeat the High Table.
This year still has several assassin outings to offer, with Academy Award winner and Hollywood icon Denzel Washington all set to return as the mysterious assassin Robert McCall in The Equalizer 3. Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by Richard Wenk, The Equalizer 3 picks up with Robert now living in Southern Italy and still striving to escape his past. Of course, he must use his special set of skills once again after discovering that his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses belonging to the Sicilian Mafia. The Equalizer 3 is scheduled to be released on September 1, 2023, by Sony Pictures Releasing.
Audiences will also see the return of celebrated director David Fincher, who turns his hand to telling an assassin-centered story in The Killer. Starring Michael Fassbender, The Killer is based on the French graphic novel series of the same name by Alexis Nolent, and follows the titular assassin as he battles his employers, and himself, on an international manhunt he insists isn't personal. The Killer will premiere at the 80th Venice International Film Festival in September and is scheduled to be released by Netflix on November 10, 2023.
From Quiver Distribution, The Collective will come to theaters, digital, and on demand platforms on August 4, 2023.
