Sometimes, love happens when you least expect it. Voltage Pictures’ upcoming film See You on Venus is based on the debut young adult novel by author Victoria Vinuesa (which actually releases in September, 2023). The YA romance features Virginia Gardner (Halloween, Marvel's Runaways, Beautiful Disaster) portraying the role of Mia and Alex Aiono (Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.) as Kyle.

In this new footage from the film, the pair discusses Mia’s fascination with the planet Venus, while they sit together in front of a crackling fire on a star-drenched beach. Check out MovieWeb's exclusive clip now.

The synopsis reads as follows:

See You On Venus follows Mia (Virginia Gardner) and Kyle (Alex Aiono), two misfit American teens who travel to Spain in search of Mia's birth mother. As the pair road trip through the picturesque cities of Andalusia and fall in love, they discover that the most important question isn't who gave you life but what you decide to do with it.

Gardner also serves in the role of executive producer, and the film is directed by Joaquín Llamas (Tierra de lobos, Acusados, Sequía). Rob Estes (Silk Stalkings, Melrose Place, 90210) and Cristina Artacho (Amar en tiempos revueltos, Cable Girls, Velvet) co-star.

The See You on Venus Characters Resonated

The two main characters in See You on Venus have their own distinct crosses to bear as they discover an unexpected love burgeoning between them. Mia (Gardner) must contend with a heart condition she’s struggled with since birth, and her only chance of surviving may be a dangerous operation. And Gardner really enjoyed portraying her character.

In a press release, Gardner said:

Mia is a really fun character and different than anything I’ve ever done before. She’s really quirky and lives life to the fullest. She is soaking up every second of every day.

Kyle (Aiono), on the other hand, is consumed by his involvement in a car accident that led to tragedy. However, when he meets Mia, the searchers see something in one another. And they set out to Spain hoping to find Mia’s estranged mother. It’s a trip that leads to an unexpected romance.

Gardner also said:

They can pull each other out of their low moments. It’s a beautiful story about two young people falling in love and how they help each other get through some difficult times.

More often than not, the books which inspired their movie adaptations come out first. However, that’s not the case with See You on Venus. Vinuesa’s young adult novel will drop on September 5, which is over a month after the film hits theaters. Look for See You on Venus in cinemas worldwide on July 21 and On Demand July 25.
