The Kill Room has been called “a dark comedic thriller” and follows an art dealer (Uma Thurman) who teams with a hitman (Joe Manganiello) and his boss (Samuel L. Jackson) for a money laundering scheme that accidentally turns the hitman into an overnight Avant-Garde sensation, forcing the dealer to play the art world against the underworld.
Written by Jonathan Jacobson and directed by Nicol Paone (Friendsgiving), The Kill Room stars Uma Thurman (Kill Bill: Vol. 1, Kill Bill: Vol. 2) as Patrice, Samuel L. Jackson (Django Unchained, Captain Marvel) as Gordon, Joe Manganiello (Magic Mike's Last Dance, Archenemy) as Reggie, and Maya Hawke (Stranger Things, Do Revenge) as Grace. The rest of the cast includes Larry Pine (The French Dispatch), Dree Hemingway (Starlet), Debi Mazar (Empire Records), WWE’s Liv Morgan, Mike Doyle (Jersey Boys), Marianne Rendón (Imposters), and Matthew Maher (Gone Baby Gone).
The Kill Room Sees Pulp Fiction Stars Uma Thurman & Samuel L. Jackson Sharing the Screen
While both Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson have become mainstays for seminal director Quentin Tarantino, with the former having starred in the likes of the Kill Bill saga, while the latter has starred in The Hateful Eight, Jackie Brown, and Django Unchained, The Kill Room will be the first time the pair have really shared the screen.
Of course, both featured heavily in Tarantino’s intertwining crime epic, Pulp Fiction, but they did not share a word, and while they also appear briefly together in the Kill Bill movies, The Kill Room will finally see the iconic pair exchange quips, artistic analysis and other such dialogue as the comedic thriller finds them leading the way as a criminal kingpin and an art dealer who is perhaps out of her depth.
"The combination of Uma and Sam for this project is a dream come true,” producers Jordan Yale Levine, Jordan Beckerman, and Jon Keeyes said of the project in a previous statement. “We are certain that Nicol is going to deliver a special film, and one that strikes the perfect balance between dark humor and edge-of-your-seat thrills."
Director Nicol Paone meanwhile is thrilled to be helming a project starring two such well-known talents as Thurman and Jackson. "Getting to make The Kill Room — an already incredible script — with Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson is beyond my wildest dreams,” Paone said. “Every moment they’re onscreen, they are both enviable and eye-catching. I am eternally grateful to both of them for saying yes, and I am thrilled to bring this to life alongside Anne Clements and Yale Productions."
The Kill Room is scheduled to be released in theaters on September 29, 2023.
